VIDEO: 5K Run Held To Raise Money For Law Enforcement Vests

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- Law enforcement officers and supporters got up early this morning to support a special cause.

This morning’s 5K race was sponsored by Wives of Warriors. The group is made up of wives of law enforcement officers in the area, who want to raise money to purchase much needed up to date body armor for officers.

Kim Rushing is founder of the group, and she says each body armor unit can cost anywhere from $600 to $1,000.

“City and county funding especially for smaller towns just doesn’t have enough in their funds to provide each officer with an up to date vest. They may all have vests but they’re not what they need to have or some of them don’t have nay at all. So we just want to make sure that they all can come home to us at night and we’re taking care of them,” says Rushing.

She says last year’s race allowed the group to purchase 16 vests. She says they are on track to purchase 25 to 30 this year.

Rushing believes every officer in Northeast Mississippi could use at least one up to date vest.
