CHOCTAW COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Choctaw County Schools are continuing with their transition after consolidation of it’s schools.

Educators in Ackerman, Weir, and French Camp have been busy preparing for changes and instruction now their students fall under one umbrella. Everything from the new school alma mater to whether or not to include volley ball has been the focus of changes.

“But we want to take care of the big things and do those well, that’s the, our number one goal and thats the instruction and the educating of our kids and things of that nature,” said Superintendent Stewart G. Beard, Jr.

The decision on where to put trophies, minute little things according to Superintendent Beard, and although consolidation has been a rocky road they feel they have been successful and have done whats necessary.

“The way economics and things are now, with the education its a necessity. You have to change and I’ve always said, a school system thats not moving is getting behind. So we have to move forward and that’s what we are doing,” said Beard.

“Our colors are navy, red, and white and we are real excited about it and the community is starting to get excited about it. They’ve seen the new logos and things of that nature,” added Beard.

Decisions are not always easy and everyone certainly are not in agreement, with a transition Superintendent Beard is confident with.

“Change is never easy but a necessity in this case and we just want to pull together and lets move forward and maintain our course of being an outstanding academic institution here in Choctaw County,” said Beard.

Choctaw County students will return to the classrooms August 8th.
