VIDEO: Columbus Cops On Doughnut Shops

COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)- If you happened to be passing by Krispy Kreme in Columbus, you may have seen several officers on the roof. Not to worry, they weren’t there to jump but to raise money for a good cause.

The Columbus Police Department hosted it’s annual Cops on Doughnut Shops fundraiser Saturday morning from 8am to 1pm.

Anyone who made a donation, received a free doughnut.

The fundraiser was to help the Area 6 Golden Triangle Special Olympics group travel to the national games, including: Chickasaw, Clay, Lowndes, Monroe, Oktibbeha and Webster Counties.

Police Chief Oscar Lewis says events like this wouldn’t be possible without a little help.

“I would like to thank the officers of the police department and Krispy Kreme for allowing us to come out and helping us support this event which I believe is very important. So got a good group of men and women at the department and just thank them for all that they are doing,” says Lewis.

This is the 3rd Cops on Doughnut Shops fundraiser event.
