COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)-Columbus Mayor, Robert Smith made a State of Columbus address for the Columbus Rotary Club.

The Mayor informed club memebers about the main priorities for the city’s future.

Some goals are to remove abandoned housing to increase property value as well as improving the crime rate throughout Columbus.

Another priority in the next year will be street and drainage updates. The Mayor says thanks to the financial assistance from Kior, the city now have the funds to complete the project.

“Like to do paving sometime probably the mid-summer like July or August. ‘X’ amount of streets and then next year follow up every year for the next four years,” Mayor Robert Smith.

The Mayor says as of now, there will be no tax increase to help fund the many projects.
