LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-Fifth graders at New Hope got to watch a fellow classmate get honored at a tree planting ceremony this morning. Four County E-P-A headed up a contest where students from nine schools designed a poster that outlined the importance of trees in conserving energy and their value in everyday life. Austin Dotson won the contest using the theme, Arbor Day Adventures. After the hole was dug and the magnolia tree planted, the kids got a lesson on the environment and importance of trees. National Arbor Day is the last Friday in April.
