WINONA, Miss. (WCBI)- For 100 year now… the Marine corps reserve has been delivering the message of hope to millions of children, across the country, through the Toys For Tots Program.

Making an impact in the community was the goal Saturday as area residents flooded a Jimmy’s barbershop of Winona with toys.

“We been collecting toys and donations since October and today is the day we’re going to spread the cheer. We have over 273 children that will receive toys between the two counties. We have over 2500 toys here to give away,”said Toys for Tots Event Organizer Calbrina Woods.

Toys for tots Organizer Calbrina Woods says she brought this Nationally held Event to this community through a local organization.

” We’re part of an organization called blessings for all empowered by faith and toys for tots is something that benefited us when we were younger so god put it on my heart to bring it here to this community,”said Woods.

Though, Woods is spear heading this event she says it wouldn’t be possible with out the support of the community.

“I stand outside of Wal-Mart and ill stand outside of dollar general and we’ll have our little buckets where we collect our donations and then we also put out boxes.. toys for tots boxes and we leave them in the stores or we’ll ask a business could we leave them there,”said Woods.

Martika Cleveland says she is thankful for the Toys for tots program.

” You have some kids that you know… they really not expecting nothing for Christmas so I  don’t see anything wrong with it I feel so excited for it because they are going to get the best Christmas ever,” said Toys For Tots Participant Cleveland.
