Winona Imposes Curfew

WINONA, Miss. (WCBI) — Kids 17 and under in Winona and their parents will need to keep a closer eye on the clock starting next month.
Aldermen approved a curfew at 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and midnight on weekends. Parents will have to pay a 100 dollar fine and the teens could have to do 10 hours of community service work. Violators will be taken to the police department and held until their parents arrive.
Teens are exempt if they are with their parents or can show they are going to and from work, a sporting event, the movies or some other activity supervised by adults.
The new law rakes effect in 30 days.
It’s in response to growing complaints of kids roaming the streets and getting into trouble late at night. That included a shooting last month that resulted in the death of a 21 year old.
Aldermen say they will consider stiffer fines for repeat offenders after they see how the curfew works.
