Changes Set For Corinth Cemetery
CORINTH, Miss. (AP) – The city of Corinth has adopted new rules for permits and practices at the city-owned Forrest Hill Cemetery.
Officials tell the Daily Corinthian (http://bit.ly/12glat2 ) that the new rules are to address a problem with payments not being made for some burial plots.
The permit fee to open a grave at the cemetery is increasing from $100 to $350. Officials say the price to purchase a plot is still low compared to that of other cemeteries and cemetery income has not increased for a number of years.
The ordinance allows a fine of up to $1,000 for each failure of a funeral home to obtain a permit prior to opening a grave. Headstones are required, and a new dimension requirement is aimed primarily at the upcoming new section.
Permits are issued at the city clerk’s office.
