COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The bonds have been issued, but it’ll likely be October before Columbus residents see the start of a major street improvement program.

City engineers are finalizing details and plans for dozens of streets and sidewalks, but those plans likely won’t be finished for other two weeks.

Bids will be taken at the end of the month and awarded in late September, which will leave contractors about three months of work before winter arrives.

The city council issued $5 million in bonds last month to pay for the work.
