STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Their schools share the same state and the same initials. About 30 staff and students, from Mississippi State, have returned from Hattiesburg where they spent a couple of days helping clean up debris from the Southern Miss campus. Sunday’s EF-4 tornado damaged 9 buildings at USM. It will cost tens of millions of dollars to get everything back to normal.

MSU volunteer Ricky Brock says, “All the staff that were in the cafeteria eating lunch came up and told us they appreciated us coming down and helping out with the cleanup and all. They welcomed us with open arms. ”

Classes resumed at USM on Thursday.

Many of those classes were held in temporary locations.

Insurance is expected to cover most of the damage at the school.

USM will have to pay a $100,000 deductible.
