OCH Lunch-and-Learn to Focus on Planning Now for Peace of Mind

STARKVILLE, Miss. (Press Release) — Planning for end-of-life care is a hard reality to face, but making arrangements for the future can also provide yourself and your loved ones with peace of mind during a very difficult time.

OCH Regional Medical Center will host a lunch-and-learn sponsored by Gentiva hospice addressing the nationally recognized “Five Wishes” program. Featured on CNN and NBC’s Today Show, and in Time and Money magazines, the program has been called the first “living will with a heart and soul.”

Thursday’s educational session will be presented by OCH Medical Associates Internist Cameron Huxford, MD, and will address the following topics: “The person I want to make care decisions for me when I can’t,” “The kind of medical treatment I want or don’t want,” “How comfortable I want to be,” “How I want people to treat me,” and “What I want my loved ones to know.”

“Five Wishes is easy to use and not only covers your medical wishes but also documents your personal, emotional and spiritual requests,” said Dr. Huxford. “As a critical care specialist, I recommend all my patients have a plan for end-of-life care. By doing so, they make what’s already a difficult time easier on everyone involved,” he added.

This lunch-and-learn is free and open to the public and will take place September 18 from noon – 1 p.m. in the OCH Community Room. Space is limited, so individuals are urged to call 662-615-3067 or e-mail mkight@och.org to reserve your space and light lunch today!
