GOLDEN TRIANGLE, Miss. (Press Release) — The Golden Triangle Early College High School (ECHS) program is now accepting applications for the 2015-16 school year. All eighth-grade students currently residing in Clay, Lowndes, Noxubee and Oktibbeha counties are eligible to apply.

This comprehensive, four-year program will be housed on East Mississippi Community College’s Mayhew campus. Through ECHS, students can earn a traditional Mississippi high school diploma along with an associate’s degree from EMCC.

“Students in our program will have the opportunity to begin earning college credit as early as the ninth grade in a small, supportive environment,” said Jill Savely, principal of the Golden Triangle ECHS.

“Our primary goal is to prepare students for college, career and life. Interested students and their families are encouraged to attend an information session and to contact us with questions. I look forward to welcoming the Golden Triangle ECHS Class of 2019 this fall.”

The Golden Triangle ECHS is a partnership among EMCC, the Mississippi Department of Education, and Mississippi State University. It will open its doors in August 2015. A group of 50 freshmen will be admitted for the 2015-16 school year, with a new cohort of 50 students added each year. Nationwide, there are more than 200 ECHS programs, but the Golden Triangle ECHS will be the first of its kind in Mississippi.
