TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A Northeast Mississippi based ministry is showcasing some of its work across the world. The annual missions conference for Global Outreach is underway and WCBI’s Allie Martin tells us how the ministry is making a difference in the lives of its workers and those they serve.

For the past couple of days, Francis Wade has been meeting old friends, and making new ones. He is one of ten or so missionaries at the annual Global Outreach Missions Conference.

Organizers hope Wade and others can encourage teams or individuals to take short-term trips.

“It’s a great opportunity to rub shoulders with some of those missionaries to see, that maybe my group, my work group or church group, wants to do something in Central America, or in India.”

For the past three years, Wade has been the director of Global Outreach Belize Vo Tech. He oversees a boarding school that gives at-risk young men an education and and vocational training…and a Christian message.

“We do that through the trades we offer, being agriculture, automotive, mechanics and woodworking, but all those are a tool for us to give them Jesus Christ.”

Wade is passionate about the work at Belize Vo Tech, because he is a product of the school and its mission.

“Global Outreach pretty much saved me from a life of being on the streets … the missionaries that have been through Global Outreach, they have been able to bring me to the U S and afforded me an education.”

And Wade knows the difference volunteers make.

“It was at the school at the young age of 14 going on to 15 that a 67 year old lady, a missionary from Morristown, Tennessee, she came on a short-term mission trip and she led me to the Lord, and I tell people that’s the most important thing that I took away from the school.”

While Wade enjoys visiting supporters stateside, he is anxious to get back to Belize and help make difference. In Tupelo I’m Allie Martin, WCBI News.

All 245 Global Outreach missionaries raise their own support.
