MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The Monroe County Sheriff’s department hit the streets Wednesday for compliance  checks.

Sheriff Cecil Cantrell, along with U.S. Federal Marshal’s, went door-to-door checking to make sure registered sex offenders are living within certain restrictions placed upon them.

For example, Sex offenders cannot live 3,000 feet from a school or daycare and they must live at the same address they are registered at.

Sheriff Cantrell says these checks are just another way to keep offenders accountable and also to help make the community a safer place.

” They’re out of jail and they’re living in our community and we’re going to make sure that our community is safe by checking and making sure they’re living where they’re supposed to be living,” said Monroe County Sheriff, Cecil Cantrell.

Sheriff Cantrell and the marshals checked on around 40 to 50 sex offenders.

The  two- day search resulted in two arrests. Willie Earl McIntosh Jr.,62, of Nettleton, is charged with failure to register as a sex offender. John Curry, 49, of Aberdeen, is also charged with failure to register as a sex offender.

Both men are being held at the Monroe County Detention Center.

Bond has not been set.
