TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Some Tupelo residents are getting fit for a good cause.

The second annual Boerner to be Wild Fitness Challenge at the North Mississippi Medical Center Wellness Center featured 17 obstacles, including an inclined wall for contestants to traverse.

The object was to go through the course in the fastest time possible, while successfully completing each task.

It was designed to be an ultimate test of both strength and stamina.

It was named in honor of Hank Boerner, who was director of the Wellness Center until he passed away in December 2012.

“And what we wanted to do is remember him and remember what he stood for and what he wanted to do for the kids,” said Director Phillip Raper. “And what we’re doing with the Healthy Tupelo Task Force is going to be a thing where anybody can apply for grants and if they’re going to use it to promote kids and promote physical fitness with kids, they can use those grants.”

Raper says the grants are for anywhere between $250 and $1,000.
