TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) — Second graders at Tupelo’s Thomas Street Elementary had a chance to dance through the solar system. Grants from the Mississippi Arts Commission and Crayola gave students the opportunity to work with local dance instructor, Roxie Clayton.

She has worked with second graders to create “Dance through the Solar System.” Students have been studying the solar system recently and Clayton says it has been a chance for the youngsters to learn about dance, how planets move through the solar system and how to work as a team.

Dance instructor, Roxie Clayton said, “I hope they build confidence, not only in their academic life but also moving in front of their peers because I think that’s a really important tool for them to have.I hope they have had a lot of fun and that they have a better understanding of outerspace but also an appreciation for the art form of dance.”

About 150 students took dance classes weekly during the project.
