Flooding Rains and Storms Coming…

The potential exists for significant flooding across portions of the South as heavy rain is projected to remain for several days straight beginning Tuesday.  This threat does include our region, and confidence is increasing for serious impacts within our WCBI viewing area.  Stay with WCBI Weather for updates over the next several days.

SUNDAY NIGHT: Temperatures fall behind the cold front back into the upper 30s and low 40s. Look for a partly cloudy sky by morning with light northerly winds.

MONDAY:  We fully expect to see some sunshine finally, but it won’t last long.  Expect an overall partly sunny and dry during the day.  A few isolated shower are expected late Monday Night as rain moves our way.  Look for highs in the upper 40s and 50s area-wide.

The flood threat in our area is high from Tuesday through Saturday given the potential for heavy rain. Areawide 3-6″+ are expected, with higher amounts a real possibility.

TUESDAY – THURSDAY: Look for rain to move in by Tuesday morning and last much of the day Tuesday, Wednesday and even on Thursday.  A frontal boundary will stall out over the South.  Right now, we’re inclined to believe that’s right over us.  That boundary, coupled with strong southwest flow aloft means we are growing increasingly concerned about the threat for flooding.  Tuesday through Thursday, many areas will see over 3″ of rain, with the potential for areas to see 6″+.  The good news is that we don’t anticipate much in the way of severe weather in our area, although a stronger storms can’t be ruled out at some point.

FRIDAY – NEXT WEEKEND: On top of the mid-week heavy rain, another system is expected to follow into the weekend.  This may add a few inches on-top of already significant rainfall totals in our region.  Fingers crossed, we’ll push a strong front through by Saturday Night bringing an end to the deluge in our region by Sunday.  The chance for a stronger storm is possible as the cold front pushes through.  We’re monitoring.

By next weekend, multiple rounds of heavy rain will drop 5-8″+ with locally higher amounts. Flooding is a serious concern.
