BRUCE, Miss. (WCBI) – Some dog lovers in Bruce gave residents the chance to obtain the perfect Christmas gift this year.

Members of the Dog Lovers League held up signs on the Bruce town square to try to encourage passersby to stop and look at the adorable dogs and puppies that are looking for permanent homes this Christmas. Rose Wells is Founder of the organization.

“We take homeless dogs strays and we try to re- home them. take care of them until they do find homes,” says Wells.

The Dog Lovers’ League does not euthanize dogs. For now they’re being held at a temporary site at a couples home, but soon that is going to change. On Monday crews will begin constructing a new permanent facility for the Dog Lovers League at a site near the waste treatment plant. The initial building with have 25 pens holding a total of 50 dogs. And they plan to expand later.

“We would love for somebody to adopt a dog for Christmas,” Wells emphasizes. “We’ve got some newborns that will be ready just about Christmas time. So we’ll have Christmas puppies. We now have about 30 something dogs. We got up to about 70, ” Wells noted.

Johnny and Charity Naron already have three dogs, five cats, and assorted other pets.

“I can’t see letting animals just go without having somebody to love them”, Johnnie explained. “A Christmas gift, yeah Christmas birthday, you name it, even just having one every day, I couldn’t see myself without one,” he said.

“A dog for Christmas is awesome. And don’t go to a pet store,” said Charity Naron.

“They’re are so many dogs out there that homes that are in shelters, be it the Dog Lovers League here in Bruce or any surrounding town. Go to a shelter and adopt a dog. You won’t get any more loyal than a dog from a shelter because they’re so happy to get out of that cage. They’ll be your best friend for life,” Charity noted.

Sisters Chloe and Anna Box adopted one of the Dog Lovers League hounds.

“I’m surprised my parents let me get a dog because I allergic to them if they get in my face but I’ve got a feeling that he won’t be a problem,” Chloe says.

The Dog Lovers League of Bruce doesn’t think there is any better way to bring Christmas cheer this holiday season.
