Radio Day in the Park
The Magnolia Amateur Radio Club of Starkville and the Lowndes County Amateur Radio Club of Columbus will be hosting a Radio Day in the Park event at McKee Park in Starkville on July 13th from 8:30 AM- Until.
The event is an opportunity for the public to learn about amateur radio and how it’s both a fun hobby and a service to aid the community during an emergency situation where traditional communications are compromised.
We have an active amateur “ham” radio community in the Golden Triangle and we have the world’s largest ham radio supplier here in Starkville, MFJ Enterprises.
The Radio Day in the Park will have several radio stations setup to show how amateur communications work, including a station that will be communicating using CW (morse code) and what’s called a Get on the Air, or GOTA, station. The GOTA station is a station where any member of the public can sit down with a licensed amateur radio operator and make a contact with someone. It might be a contact with someone across the country or across the world. This is a great experience for kids to get on the air and hear a conversation in CW.
