FFA Receives Severe Weather Safety Grant
The Starkville Millsaps FFA Chapter received a grant from the National FFA Organization to kick off a severe weather safety campaign in Oktibbeha County.
They were on hand helping at West Elementary School in Sturgis for the Mississippi statewide tornado drill yesterday. They passed out literature to parents, spoke with students and provided the school with a new NOAA weather radio.
FFA members set a goal to promote severe weather and tornado safety in every elementary school in the county through assemblies, coloring contests and classroom visits.
They also will be providing new NOAA weather radios for all county schools and will work with local administrators and community leaders to review severe weather safety policies.
The project is part of the National FFA Organization’s Living to Serve Grant, a semester long grant which gives local FFA members an opportunity to support various service projects in their community.
The FFA chapter will be able to purchase over 20 weather radios with the grant. They hope to reach every elementary student and pass out all the weather radios by spring break.
