Louisville-Winston Airport receives grant

WINSTON, Miss. (WCBI) – The Louisville-Winston Airport received a $4.2 million grant to revamp its runway.

Other improvements included resurfacing the entire runway and adding LED lights.

One of the main concerns was the runway was crowned, meaning the line of sight along the runway was obscured.

Local governments will not have to match any money for the U.S. Department of Transportation grant, which is usually the case.

“We are so thankful for a progressive airport authority board who has seized the moment, seized the opportunity, to work with other agencies to make improvements and this is just icing on the cake. What a great opportunity to continue this progress, meeting some of our major safety concerns at our airport,” said Louisville Mayor Will Hill.

600 planes landed at the airport in 2018.

The project is expected to take two years to complete.
