Staying Safe During Severe Weather

With the threat for severe weather today, it’s important to be aware and stay alert for inclement weather.  Our team of WCBI meteorologists has some tips to keep you informed.

  1. Have your NOAA Weather Radio on.  If an alert is issued in or around your area, your radio will go off and notify you.
  2. Download the WCBI App on your phone.  If an alert is issued in your area, our team of meteorologists will send a push alert to notify you.  You can also watch the storms on our interactive radar and stream severe weather coverage on your phone from your safe place.
  3. Watch WCBI-tv for the latest updates on the bottom of the screen.  If a tornado warning is issued, our WCBI meteorologists will cut into regularly scheduled programming to keep you informed ahead of the storm.

SAFETY TIPS:

  1. Visit wcbi.com/safety for information including public storm shelters, severe weather safety information, how to stay connected and more.
  2. If a tornado warning is issued for your area, immediately take action.  Leave mobile homes and vehicles for a sturdy shelter.  Remember to get to the most interior room as possible and as low to the ground as possible.  Cover up with blankets, pillows, mattresses and use a bicycle helmet to protect your head.
  3. If a severe thunderstorm warning is issued, anticipate large hail and damaging winds.  A tornado is also possible, so its still a good idea to seek shelter, especially when conditions can rapidly change.
