Strong Storms Possible Today

TODAY: High temperatures top out in the 70s today. A cold front will push through the area today, and enough unstable air, moisture, and wind shear will be in place to support some strong to severe storms. Initially in the morning and early afternoon, scattered single cell and multi cell cluster thunderstorms will develop. These storms will be capable of damaging straight line winds, perhaps a hailstone or two, and an isolated tornado will be possible in these cells. As the afternoon wears on, storms will become linear, still posing a strong straight line wind threat, with the possibility of a spin-up not out of the question. The main time-frame for severe weather will be from around 9 AM to 5 PM. Tonight, we dry off, with lows in the upper 40s and a few low 50s.

TUESDAY: A temporary break from the rain on Tuesday, but we stay cloudy. Highs in the upper 50s and low 60s with a north wind. Overnight lows in the low 40s.

WED/THU: More rain returns to the forecast for the middle of the week. Numerous showers and perhaps a few storms will be possible Wednesday, Wednesday night and Thursday. High temperatures in the upper 40s Wednesday, and overnight lows in the low to mid 40s. Thursday’s temperatures are a bit of a wild card, with models split on whether a warm front can lift north into our area, or if we stay on the cooler side of the system. For now, we’ll go with highs in the upper 40s and low 50s, but there could be a wide range of temperatures on Thursday. Lows Thrusday night drop into the upper 30s and low 40s.

FRI/SAT/SUN: Finally some drier weather moves in to round out this week. Highs in the low 50s Friday under partly sunny skies, then mostly sunny and warmer for the weekend with highs in the low 60s. Overnight lows in the 30s.
