UNCORKED: What’s in your wine?

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI)- Who knew there was so much science involved in wine? Sommelier Bobbie Burgess has the break down.

When Bobbie first started studying to become a sommelier, she says she needed to work on her olfactory, which is your sense of smell. Sommelier’s have to know what’s in different wines, in part, by the smell.

“When we’re blind tasting, a lot of times you’re usually going to be more wrong than right, but certain wines smell like certain things. So, you have to be able to pick those notes out to figure out, okay, if it smells like green bell pepper, pepper corn and black currant, it’s probably Cabernet Sauvignon,” said Bobbie.

  • Revelry Cabernet Sauvignon out of Washington State.
