Video: Student Athlete of the Week: Courtney Hatcher, Eupora HS, Girls Basketball and Softball

[syndicaster id=’6169453′] EUPORA, Miss. (WCBI Sports) Eupora athlete Courtney Hatcher is ninth best in her class carrying a 4.0 grade point average. She also is involved in numerous academic clubs while playing three sports.

Back in October, Courtney Hatcher won her first State Title in slow-pitch softball at Eupora and the school’s first since 2006. Hatcher says it was truly an honor to win it for the city and the community of Eupora.

“It was a great feeling. It was something that we worked hard for and we worked for a while. We practice really hard everyday. I just knew that we could get the job done,” said Student Athlete Courtney Hatcher.

“Courtney Hatcher has been a leader for this softball program since her eighth grade year playing slow-pitch and fast-pitch. Now she’s in her second season playing basketball here at Eupora and Head Coach Danya Turner and Head Softball Coach Kaley Harris see the leadership she brings to the softball team and to the basketball team,” said WCBI Sports Reporter Jonathan Flippo.

“She’s been a great phenomenal athlete for us. She rebounds well. She’s a good leader on the court and does the little things, which you need done on the court and that’s what I appreciate about her,” said Head Basketball Coach Danya Turner.

“Her leadership has always been great on and off the field. She’s always been somebody that other kids look up to that you want other kids to look up to. She gives it all she’s got. She’s always here to give a hundred percent and she’s always somebody you can count on,” said Head Softball Coach Kaley Harris.

Teammate Emily Littlejohn plays basketball and softball with Hatcher and she also takes classes with her too and Littlejohn see’s the success she has brought to the team and in the classroom.

“She’s been a great leader. She’s always the first one to do anything and if we’re having a bad day she pumps us up. She never has an attitude and when she does she gets out of it she doesn’t won’t it to affect the whole team,” said Teammate Emily Littlejohn.

After graduation Hatcher wants her legacy to be remembered for a long time.

“Just a person that was a great leader on and off the field and that was there for anyone that ever needed any help,” Hatcher said.

Eupora Lady Eagles return to action Friday night in Okolona at 6pm.
