Video: Bill Passes House That Would Assist End To CLRA

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI-TV) – There’s another step forward Wednesday in the process of Lowndes County and the city of Columbus separating their control of area parks.

House Bill 1530 passed the Mississippi House Wednesday in Jackson that would allow Lowndes County to give money to Columbus to oversee its own facilities and programs. The bill will now go to the Senate.

If it becomes law, the county would have to decide how it will manage its parks if the two sides end their long-term deal, the Columbus Lowndes Recreation Authority.

Leaders with both the city and Lowndes County are still discussing the specifics of ending that agreement.
