Many Mississippi counties still have their own burn bans in effect. Chickasaw, Clay, Lee and Monroe counties, among others, still have bans in place.

Lowndes and Oktibbeha counties, among others, do not have burn bans in effect after the governor’s order Friday.

Many county boards in our area will be discussing next week whether to lift active bans.

Call your county to find out if a burn ban in still in place where you live. Here is the Mississippi Forestry Commission’s list of burn bans by county.

Alabama Governor Robert Bentley has not lifted the burn ban in his state.
