Video: ‘On The Radio’ Takes A Musical Trip Through Time With A Cast Of ‘KYDZ”

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – For three nights a week, during the past month, fifteen youngsters have been rehearsing at TCT Off Broadway.

“On the Radio” is the second TCT youth production.

“It’s the decades of music that you hear on the radio,” said Dianne Ludt, who is director of “On The Radio.”  The production begins in the 1920s, when radio was becoming a main source for news and entertainment. Tupelo’s most famous native son hit the airwaves in the 1950s and that band from Liverpool England topped the charts throughout the 1960s.

There is even a favorite from the early 1980s as part of the musical history lesson.

The young actors, dancers and singers say it has been a lot of work but they believe this production has something for all ages to enjoy.

“I encourage kids, because it’s really like a history lesson, but it’s really fun and music from the history, but I encourage adults because it reminds them of their happy days and everything, ” said Cast Member Bella Maka.

“They should come, because, there’s a lot to learn, in this play, and other than that, it’s just nice to see kids act and perform,” said Cast Member Kabir Gupta.

“They can remember times gone by  and you can also learn some stuff and it’s really cool to be in it,” said Cast Member Mary Chapeel Whitehead.

And at this production, audience interaction and participation is encouraged.

“We hope the audience , the adults will love it, kids will love it, it’s great music and we are inviting everyone to get up and dance with us,” Ludt said.

“On The Radio” runs Friday and Saturday.
