Video: Starkville High School Student Honored For Perfect Attendance

STARKVILLE, Miss.(WCBI)—Making it an entire school year with no absences is quite a feat.  Imagine, going from kindergarten to 12 grade without missing a single day of school.

Starkville High Senior Jackson Rosinski has done it.

” When I was little, like in elementary school, I didn’t know not going to school was even an option,”said Roskinski.

It hasn’t been an option ever since.

” I have to thank my mom for that because everyday she would come in, wake me up until I got old enough, I set an alarm everyday for six o’clock. I’m just like, I’ve never really had one of those days where I don’t feel like going to school today,”said Roskinski.

Band Director Shawn Sullivan, works very closely with Jackson.

“Jackson is a very dependable person. When ever I need something done, I can always ask Jackson to take care of it. He’s always prepared for rehearsal. He’s always prepared for class. He is just a great young man. He comes from a great family and of course he’s always there,”said Sullivan.

Sullivan says, Jackson is already lite-years ahead of so many people in the work force today.

“One of the main reasons people don’t keep jobs in life, is because they don’t show up or are late, it’s not because the can’t do the work. Jackson is setting the example of,”I’m going to be there, I’m going to do the work. He is very dedicated to his school work and just a tremendous young man,”said Sullivan.

“My future job, I’m going to have the same attitude. Even on the days where I dread going to that work, I’m just going to suck it up, wake up in the morning and just go and start my day off with a positive attitude, which I always do,”said Rosinski.

Jackson says he has been absent from class before, but even when it’s warranted, he says he hates the feeling.

” I’ve missed a few days but they were always school purposes. I would, like, freak out because I’m missing stuff. A lot of people say,” Oh that’s impossible” but it’s like, you have to have the determination to get up don’t be lazy, just get out of bed and just do it,”said Rosinski.

Jackson says as he heads to the graduation stage next month, he wants students coming behind him to know it takes dedication.

” If you have the feeling that you don’t want to go to school, set that aside and say you know what, I got to do it, it’s going to be better off in the long run. Once you do that it will be really easy,”said Rosinski
