Thomas Green escaped from the Marion County jail just before 1 am. He was in jail for a first degree Rape charge.
The inmate was serving a life sentence for a 1994 burglary and assault conviction in Mobile County.
The defendant is accused of sending sexually explicit texts to a Columbus High School student. The student's mother reportedly filed the original report.
